Amabilis Balsam Fir (Abies amabilis) Amabilis fir is a tall straight tree
that can reach 50 metres in height and 1 metre in diameter, and is a shade-tolerant species. Working Properties: * high strength -to-weight issue * wood dries quickly * easy to work with * good machining qualities * planes and shapes well * can be sanded to a smooth finish * wood glues easy * has steady nail and screw
holding ability * takes a good finish
Subalpine Balsam Fir (Abies lasiocarpa) Subalpine fir is a medium sized tree, on average 20 to 35 metres in height and 30 cm in diameter. It is
usually mixed in Englemann and White spruce stands. Working properties: * Similar working properties
as spruce and pine (SPF)
Engelmann/White Spruce (Picea engelmannii) Englemann
spruce occurs at high elevations and interbreeds with white spruce in areas where their ranges overlap, and they are referred
to as Interior spruce and reach 45 metres in height and 1 metre in diameter. Working properties: * high strength-to-weight ratio * wood dries rapidly * easy to work with * good machining qualities *
turns, planes and shapes well * can be sanded to a smooth finish * wood glues easy * has steady nail and screw

tree is largest of the spruces and grows up to 70 metres tall and 2 metres in diameter. Working

Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) Western red cedar is a large tree, up to 60 metres tall when mature and 2.5 metres in diameter. Working properties: * fairly lightweight wood * soft wood and modest in strength *
takes a smooth, satiny finish * easy to work * good machining qualities * planes and shapes well * can
be sanded to a smooth finish * wood glues easily * steady nail and screw holding ability * takes a good finish
Lodgepole Pine (Pinus Contorta) Lodgepole pine on average grows 24 metres in height and 20cm in diameter.
